Last August during the G-1 Climax 23 tournament, Hirooki Goto suffered a fractured jaw and was pulled from the tournament. At the time, he was leading the A Block with
four wins (which included a big win over IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada) and two losses and had three matches left when he was pulled from the G1. At Wrestle
Kingdom 8, Goto made his return and defeated his former classmate Katsuyori Shibata and in the process, the two ended their rivalry and became tag team partners. The following day
at New Year Dash, Goto scored the pinfall in an eight-man tag team main event against CHAOS, after which he challenged Kazuchika Okada to a match for the IWGP Heavyweight
Championship, which is now set for tonight's main event. Can Okada get his win back and continue to make his reign the greatest of all time or will Goto finally achieve his dream of
